Your Greatest Privilege...

When you think of God, what comes to your mind?  The answer to this question will help to reveal you spiritual maturity.  Consider what the Psalmist suggests:

  • ‘Shout joyfully to the Lord’
  • ‘Serve the Lord with gladness’
  • ‘Come before Him with joyful singing’
  • ‘Enter His gates with thanksgiving’
  • ‘Give thanks to Him, bless His name’

Obviously, in order to do these things one must know God and be convinced that He is worthy of such praise and service.  The Psalmist recognizes this as he states, ‘Know that the Lord Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.’  He goes on to say, ‘For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.’  Psalm 100 not only encourages proper praise and service but also provides the reason for such activity.

Now, back to our original question.  When you think of God, what comes to your mind?  If praise and worship seems burdensome, prayer seems dry, God’s Word seems boring, and ministry seems inconvenient, then maybe you need to step back and consider the glory and work of God.  Meditate upon God as He is revealed by His Son and through the Bible.  Pursue a greater understanding of who God is and what He has done.  You will find that as your familiarity with God grows, your desire to praise and serve Him will grow as well.  Your life in Christ will become your greatest privilege!
